APHASIA-SPEECH SCREENING STEPS
SUMMARY
1. Propositional/free speech (checks fluency): ask the patient to describe the room, his job, clothes.
2. Comprehension: follow 3-step commands; if unable to, then follow 1-step commands; else ask yes/no questions.
3. Repetition: repeat a phrase ('No ifs ands or buts').
4. Articulation: repetition of phrase ('Royal Irish Constabulary').
5. Naming: name 2 objects in the room that are pointed at.
6. Reading: check for dyslexia.
7. Writing: check for dysgraphia.
