SUMMARY

Patients demonstrate intact language but inability to communicate.

Key features are:
1. Insensitivity to context: missing nuances and subtleties
2. Difficulty organizing information in a meaningful way: answering questions with tangential, unnecessary information
3. Difficulty reading facial expressions & gestures
4. Inability to understand figurative language
5. Lack of affect
6. Caustic sense of humor
7. Impulsivity
8. Left neglect
9. Denial of deficits
10. Better performance on structured than open-ended tasks
11. Writing errors: failure to dot the ‘i’ and cross the ‘t’
