SUMMARY

1. Nearly half of those with an amputation due to vascular disease die within 5 years.

2. This is higher than the 5 year mortality rates for breast, colon, prostate cancer. Cancer patients live longer than vasculopathy patients!

3. Of diabetics who undergo LL amputation, up to 55% will require amputation of the second leg within 2-3 years.

4. Re-operation of the same limb: 26% at 1 year, 48% at 3 years, 60% at 5 years.
