SUMMARY

1. Stump shaping and oedema control: initially with rigid removable dressings (RRD) and subsequently with shrinkers after removal of sutures (after D21 post-OP).

2. Muscle strengthening.

3. Contracture prevention.

4. Mobility training: WC & crutches.

5. Early discharge for TTA patients. TFA patients are usually admitted longer.

6. Assess for delayed wound healing. The stump need not have healed completely for an interim prosthesis, but monitor the wound carefully.
