SUMMARY

Optimal C-spine lateral criteria:
1. Disc spaces are clear without superimposed bony shadows
2. Transverse processes (TP) occupy the posterior superior corner of the vertebral body (VB)
3. Articular pillars (ArPs) are superimposed (no double borders)
4. ArPs subdivide the anterior to posterior canal width by about half
5. There is maximized space between the ArP posterior margin and spinolaminar line
