SUMMARY

1. MRI is the procedure of choice for assessing the intramedullary space of the spinal cord.

2. There are a few characteristic patterns of such lesions on T1/T2 weighted sequences (with various ACR appropriateness criteria).

3. Types of abnormalities: tumor, trauma, infection (abscess), syrinx, stroke (cord infarct).
