SUMMARY

1. In the cervical spine the exiting nerve root corresponds to the vertebra below. E.g. C1/2 ⟹ C2 nerve root; C3/4 ⟹ C4 nerve root.

2. In the rest of the spine the exiting nerve root corresponds to the vertebra above. E.g. T3/4 ⟹ T3 nerve root; L1/2 ⟹ L1 nerve root.
