SUMMARY

1. Nucleus ambiguus (upper medulla): stylopharyngeus

2. Nucleus tractus solitarius (lower medulla): taste fibres from the posterior tongue & afferents from the carotid sinus, body

3. Inferior salivary nucleus (pons): lesser petrosal nerve (secretomotor to the parotid) which synapses in the otic ganglion

4. Trigeminal ganglion/nucleus: ordinary sensation from the tongue, pharynx, palate & tonsil
