SUMMARY

1. These are synovial joints between the lateral inferior articular facets of the atlas and the superior articular facets of the axis.

2. The joint surfaces are circular and flat and are covered by hyaline cartilage.

3. The capsule is supplied by C2 nerve.

4. Responsible for rotation of the head.
