SUMMARY

1. Vascular dementia is the second most common cause of dementia after AD. Often confused with Alzheimer's Dementia, and may even co-exist.

FEATURES

2. Variable presentation: depending on vascular territories involved.

3. Predominantly executive function; subcortical and frontal lobe deficits: poor judgement, planning, organisation & decision making.

4. Memory and language deficits are less prominent.

5. Speech, gait, balance (falls), personality & mood may be affected.
