SUMMARY

1. Demyelinating polyneuropathies affect motor fibers and present primarily as weakness.

2. Axonal polyneuropathies are usually a sensorimotor combination, with sensory abnormalities appearing first (paresthesias progressing to numbness), then motor weakness appearing later.
