NEUROPATHY-NEURALGIC AMYOTROPHY
SUMMARY
1. AKA Parsonage-Turner syndrome.
2. Temporary inflammation of the brachial plexus that may follow a vaccination or viral illness.
3. Initially, it causes extreme pain in the shoulder with radiation to the arm, neck, and back. Bilateral involvement may occur.
4. Within hours to days after the onset of pain, the shoulder muscles and proximal arm musculature become weak.
5. Diagnosis is clinical, supported by EMG/NCS. It improves in 1-3 years with conservative management.
