GUILLAIN BARRE SYNDROME (GBS)-CLINICAL
SUMMARY
HISTORY
1. Preceding infective illness: e.g. campylobacter diarrhoea
2. Ascending weakness +/- paraesthesia
3. Back pain: diffuse (as compared to prolapsed disc)
EXAMINATION
4. Areflexia: may take a couple of days to develop, so maybe intact in the early period
5. Symmetrical weakness
6. Minimal sensory signs (despite paraesthesia being common)
