SUMMARY

1. Sarcoidosis is a multi-system disorder of unknown aetiology characterised by infiltration of T lymphocytes, mononuclear phagocytes and non-caseating granulomas in involved tissue.

2. The lungs are affected in 90% of patients.

3. Other tissues - skin, eyes, lymph nodes.

4. Gold standard - bronchial wall biopsy shows non-caseating granulomas.
