PLANTAR FASCITIS
SUMMARY
1. Four plantar foot muscles take their origin from the volar calcaneus: adductor hallucis, quadratus plantae, flexor digitorum brevis, and abductor digiti minimi.
2. Overload of these muscles can cause enthesitis & pain at the calcaneus, worse with the first few steps in the morning.
3. May be assoc. with calcaneal traction spur.
4. Management - resting night-splint, treatmnent of predisposing kinetic chain abnormalities, TA/TP exercises to strengthen the medial longitudinal arch.
