FOOT ARCH-MEDIAL ARCH

SUMMARY

1. The medial arch is the higher of the two longitudinal arches. 2. It is formed by the calcaneus, talus, navicular, three cuneiforms and first three metatarsal bones.SUPPORTING STRUCTURES3. Muscular support: tibialis anterior and posterior, peroneus longus, FDL, flexor hallucis, and the intrinsic foot muscles (i.e. all muscles arising from the deep posterior compartment of the leg, peroneus longus & intrinsic foot muscles).4. Ligamentous support: plantar ligaments (long & short plantar and plantar calcaneonavicular ligaments), medial/deltoid ligament of the ankle joint. 5. Bony support: shape of the bones of the arch. 6. Other: plantar aponeurosis.
