MEDICATION-CALCIUM

SUMMARY ARTICLE


1. Essential for normal muscle and nerve activity, transiently increases myocardial contractility & excitability.
2. Indications: hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, overdose of CCB.
3. SE: vasodilatation A/W rapid infusion, AMI/stroke, tissue necrosis with extravasation.

DOSAGE
4. 5-10 mls of IV calcium chloride or calcium gluconate given slowly. Flush before and after use as may cause precipitation with other drugs given concurrently.
