SUMMARY

1. Patient must demonstrate at least partially reversible bronchospasm & history compatible with asthma.

2. Response to a short-acting bronchodilator is defined as an increase in the FEV₁ of >= 12% and an increase of at least 200 mL.

3. Bronchoprovocation tests are done in a patient who has normal spirometry and: chronic cough, dyspnoea, wheeze.

4. Exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB) is diagnosed by a decrease in FEV₁ of >= 10% after graded exercise on a treadmill or a stationary bicycle.
