SUMMARY
1. Increasing with obesity epidemic. Classification is based on pathology rather than insulin dependence.
TYPES
2. Pre-diabetes: both impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and impaired fasting glucose (IFG).
3. Type 1: immune-mediated vs. idiopathic (without antibodies).
4. Type 2 DM.
5. Chemical DM: drug induced.
6. Gestational DM.
7. Others: endocrinopathy (Cushings), MODY, LADA.
